Barrie Blogs – My Room 101Leave a Comment
I love the TV programme Room 101 hosted by Frank Skinner in which celebrities are invited to send their pet peeves to Room 101. Watching the series over the years got me thinking about my own pet peeves, so I thought I’d share with you my biggest annoyance at the moment that I want to see gone from the world!
It’s big, it’s ugly and I for one can’t wait to see the back of it. Yes, it’s the Leicester City Council building.
Once a landmark of the city, times have changed and we are now surrounded by many modern structures (the developed area of St Peter’s Square outside the Highcross has a really cosmopolitan vibe with plenty of eateries and I love it!). This regeneration of other parts of the city has left the council building in its wake.
It’s going to be a lengthy process to remove it, but I can’t wait to see what will replace it.
Leicester is such a cultural city and thanks to the European commission bringing investment to the city we’ve seen some amazing regeneration, this next step is a continuation of our city striving to excel, and it’s doing a fantastic job given that we were shortlisted for the city of culture.
Whilst we may have missed out on the prestigious title to Hull, we certainly have a lot to be proud of when it comes to our beloved city, getting rid of the council building is just the cherry on top!
