Katy Perry is one of the best female popstars of our time. From her edgy ‘I Kissed A Girl’ beginnings to her more recent ‘Roar’ chants, Katy has well and truly broken the mould of pop music and transformed her look accordingly to match her new directions.
Here I look at Katy’s hair over the years, and assess her best – and worst – hair moments!
2007 – Feathered & Fabulous
When she burst onto the music scene in 2007, Katy’s look was sweet and innocent, as she teamed her 50s inspired outfits with subtle make-up and her softly layered locks. It was this super cute look that pushed her to the forefront of pop music – along with her talent of course!
Hair High or Hair Low? A definite hair high!
2010 – Colourful Pin-Up
Following the success of her debut record, Katy stormed back onto the scene with her second album Teenage Dream. This colourful, somewhat candy-infused album required an equally colourful look, which she approached with gusto. Her deep blue locks introduced vibrant hair dye to the teenagers of the world, whilst her blunt fringe gave a mature pin-up edge to this youthful ‘do.
Hair High or Hair Low? Hair high; vibrancy is always a winner!
2010 – Popsicle Popstar
It wouldn’t be a Katy Perry hairstyle post without mentioning her popsicle hair from the ‘California Gurls’ video! Much like Lady Gaga’s infamous hair bow, Katy’s popsicles were recreated all over the world – despite this look being crafted from an artificial wig! The pastel colourings are also fabulous.
Hair High or Hair Low? Hair high – I love a trendsetter!
2012 – Vampire Curls
Following the bright colours of Teenage Dream, it was nice to see Katy tone down her locks to a deep purple, curly look. This delightful plum-coloured hair coupled with her crimson red dress has an air of vampyness – and gorgeous vampyness at that!
Hair High or Hair Low? Hair high; this timeless look is revitalised with this unconventional colour.
2014 – Corn rows? Really?!
It’s clear that most of Katy’s hair looks are commendable, however I can’t offer such praise for her recent corn row ‘do, in her new music video for ‘This Is How We Do’. Also, why on earth would you gel the stray hairs to your forehead? That’s so outdated – and wrong!
Hair High or Hair Low? Hair low; that is NOT how we do.
