The B Factor AwardsLeave a Comment
The glamour and excitement of awards season moved to Leicester this week as the entire Barrie Stephen Hair team came together for the biggest night in their salon calendar – the B-Factor Awards. The annual event was a showcase of the team’s successes over the past year and saw a new stylist welcomed to the artistic team, speakers and VIP guests, as well as ten stand out winners announced from across the four salons.
The Bankers club in Leicester played host to the buzzing event, with BBC Radio Leicester’s breakfast show presenter, Jonathan Lampon, as compere for the evening. With De Montfort University, local businesses, Schwarzkopf Professional, KMS and Kerastase all gathered too, it was a great mix of the people and organisations who work together with Barrie.
Kicking off the night were two professional singers with a repertoire of jazzy musical numbers and then wowing the crowd, were dancers from local Studio 79 who re-enacted the Barrie Stephen Hair winning performance from the Schwarzkopf Creative Competition. Artistic Director Neil Smith announced the new artistic team member, Kelly Neale, and then Barrie began his overview of 2013. “This is one of my favourite nights of the year,” he said, “and it’s a great chance to get us all together and celebrate the past year and then to set our goals and to look forward to the months ahead. We’ve had a winning year: Most Wanted Best Local Salon, Neil Smith as Women’s Stylist of the Year at the English Hair & Beauty Awards, Annie Morelli winning her place on the Schwarzkopf Young Artistic Team, overall winners at the Schwarzkopf creative competition … I wanted to go back to inspire the team with the amazing list of achievements from 2013.”
Next up was guest speaker, Catherine Handcock, founder and publisher of Creative Head Magazine who talked about how Barrie’s team were a deserving winner of the Most Wanted Local Salon title. And then the awards commenced, highlighting the stand-out stars from newcomer of the year to manager, to front of house and home care advisor, to the big accolade of the night: Dedicated to the Expression of excellence – given to the person bringing ceaseless energy and spark to their daily salon life. King Street manager, Rajinder Sethi, was the woman of the night taking home this big award, as well as Kerastase ritual ambassador and salon of the year to make it a hat trick.
High energy was a running theme of the evening with the closing number an amazing, surprise song from salon coordinator, Kellie Vallance, who trained in musical theatre and shocked everyone with her amazing talent.
“I can honestly say that this year was the best yet,” Barrie Stephen says. “There is definitely power in having a night to thank and encourage the team and the winners were really deserving – you could tell that from the cheers. It was a true local affair too; we had BBC Radio Leicester host the night with presenter Ian Stringer announcing an award as well as our representative from the Heart of England Training, product partners, local companies, the charity that enabled me to actually start in business as well as members of the print press, and clients and family. I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to see my amazing team and so many of the significant people who have helped make Barrie Stephen what it is today all together in one place. It was an amazing celebration of talent across the business.”
