The winter months can see our silky summer hair become dry and brittle, prone to split ends and a frizzy finish, so how can we restore it to its healthiest best? We asked our resident experts, Nine Yards, for their seasonal suggestions…
The cold weather has a lot to answer for when it comes to hair health. From slower hair growth from reduced blood flow to the scalp during colder temperatures to increased dryness due to the lack of moisture in the air, it’s no surprise that winter is far from our hair’s favourite season.
Although we shed hair throughout the year, we can notice it more in the winter months as our hair enters the telogen ‘resting’ phase which can result in more strands than normal falling out.
Don’t panic though, this is a normal part of your hair’s natural growth cycle, but you can help by following these top tips:
Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner, such as Nine Yards All In Moist Shampoo and Just Right Moist Conditioner. Free from parabens and suphates, these are infused with shea butter and will cleanse and moisurise your hair and scalp.
Avoid over-washing as it will strip the hair of its natural oils. Try and limit washing to two or three times per week and use a few sprays of dry shampoo in between.
Massage your scalp to boost blood circulation which encourages healthy hair growth.
Limit heat styling and always use a heat protectant, such as Nine Yards Magical Potion and use heated styling tools that can be temperature controlled.
Use a silk pillowcase to protect your hair from friction while you sleep.
